A Word from the Pastor

Rev. Marsha Warren

There are no words to express the sadness, the pain, and the anger I feel currently. I watched a man die on TV by another man. There was a difference. I watched a Black man die at the knees of a white man. A white man who took an oath to protect and serve this Black man. This Black man who was sitting in his car. This Black man who fit the description of someone who may have passed a counterfeit $20.00 bill. A bill if it were counterfeit would have been taken by the police and destroyed by a bank. A bill which we will never know if this Black man knew it was counterfeit. This Black man whose life was worth a $20.00 counterfeit bill.

I have no words to express another injustice inflicted upon a man, a people who cannot hide in society because the color of our skin is visible. Yes, our skin.

I am a Black woman. That could have been me. Not because I am into counterfeiting but because I could have had a $20.00 bill and not know it was a counterfeit bill. There was no presumption of not guilty until proven for this Black man. There would be none for me either. All because of the color of my skin.

Since March 4 Black people have died just because of the color of their skin.

This is the start of June. How many more will die? I am reminded:

God has shown you what is good.
God has told you what is require of you.
You must act with justice.
You must love to show mercy.
And you must be humble as you live in the sight of your God.
