A Thought..

Lord, in the complex arena of human relations, help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate; on the side of inclusion, not exclusion; tolerance, not intolerance. And as we leave this mountain top, help us to hold on to the spirit of fellowship and the oneness of our family.

- Rev. Joseph Lowery, from his inaugural benediction, Jan. 20, 2009.

  growing edges
Exodus MCC is living on the "growing edge"; the edge where we look and consider that leap of faith to extend our boundaries into the unknown where God calls us.  The "growing edge" is any part of the life of Exodus which holds the potential for increased abundance, for a new perspective on faith and a deepened spiritual life.  To be on this growing edge is to be aware of the current vitality, strength, and potential of our church.  Behind us is 28 years of safety, security, growth and success - ground already broken, cleared and producing fruit.  Ahead there is danger of the unknown, but more importantly there lies the prospect and potential of new frontiers to cross and new ground to cultivate, plant, tend and harvest.

It is time to break new ground, to gaze over the harvest of past work and cultivate anew.  No individual can do this work alone.  Together, acting as a family of faith, we may boldly envision a future harvest.  Let us join together to engage our "Growing Edges."

Everyone will have the opportunity to participate in our
ministry inventory and visioning.  Get ready to plant and be a part of harvesting our call.

 Congratulations Graduates
After successful completion of high school requirements, Tyler (AHS) and Jessica (CHS) graduated from AISD on June 6th.  Wishes for many successes in the future go to each.

      Making Peace with the Pieces

A Loss Lab to Support Healing

Making Peace with the Pieces is an experience designed to give you a safe place to honor your particular loss by paying attention to it long enough for healing to find a foothold.  In a culture of quick fixes and speed-of-light communication, we often expect ourselves and others to "get over it" rather than "going through" it.

Sarah Mulke brings us "Making Peace with the Pieces" this June.  Labs are offered with a variety of dates and times.  Please download this flyer (click here) to learn more and register today!  Loss Labs are available at a cost of $50.  Please see the flyer by clicking the link above for more information.

Scrub On...Scrub Off...Only August Left!!!!!

Over the course of the school year, we are blessed with the volunteer assistance of youth in the community who clean our church for us.  When summer comes, those youth get a much-needed break, from school and from cleaning.  Because our church home is still vibrant and active, we need to work together to keep our house of worship clean and welcoming.

Like our own homes, our house of worship needs tending.  Our children play on the clean floors.  Our elders sit in polished pews.  Our community enjoys the dust-free (and sneeze-free) air.

The months of June and July have been selected by volunteers already.  The month of August is still open.  Please consider giving a portion of your time for ONE Sunday or the entire month of August to help clean our church.  Small efforts around the church combine to create a safe, clean space.  The following are a few of the small things which would help greatly.  Choose one or choose to do all, whatever you are comfortable with.

1.  Vacuum Sanctuary carpet
2.  Sweep under pews.
3.  Sweep fellowship hall & kitchen.
4.  Wash & dry dishes.
5.  Collect and take out the trash.
6.  Mop fellowship hall & kitchen.
7.  Mop under pews.
8.  Vacuum Office.
9.  Sweep foyer.
10. Mop foyer.
11. Dust bookcases and wall hangings.
12. Clean a bathroom.
13. Shine front glass doors.

If you can spare even 15 minutes to help pick up trash, wipe down a sink, sweep, vacuum...anything, please let Rev Connie know as soon as possible.  She can be reached via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
